How to choose an office phone
- VoIP and IP phones connect to your network and work with hosted VoIP services or IP phone systems. Open-SIP models work with many providers.
- Digital system phones, such as Avaya 1400 or Panasonic KX-DT models, work only with the phone systems they were designed for. Match the model to your system.
- DECT cordless phones use a base station and handsets, so staff can take calls away from the desk.
- Analogue phones are simple single-line phones. They plug into a phone line, an analogue port on a phone system or an adaptor (ATA) on a VoIP service.
- Headsets and conference phones add hands-free calling. See our office headsets and conference phones.
Questions
What is the difference between a business telephone and a home phone?
A business telephone is built to work with an office phone system or VoIP service. It usually has more line keys, call transfer, conference calling and a headset port. A home phone plugs into a single line.
Will office phones work with my existing phone system?
Only if the model is compatible. Digital system phones work only with their own make of system. VoIP phones need a provider or system that supports them. If you are not sure, send us your system details.
Which office telephone suits a small business?
A common set-up is a hosted VoIP service with IP desk phones, plus cordless phones for staff who move around. Read about choosing a phone system for a small business to compare the options.
