How to choose a cheap VoIP phone
- Check your system: many clearance phones are made for one make of system, such as Avaya, Mitel or Panasonic. Match the model to the phones you already use.
- Check the protocol: for a hosted VoIP service, choose an open-SIP phone and confirm your provider supports it.
- Expect older features: end-of-line phones may no longer get firmware updates from the maker.
- Check the condition: each listing shows whether the item is New, Refurbished or Refurbished B.
Questions
What is a cheap internet phone?
An internet phone, or VoIP phone, makes calls over your broadband or office network. You need a VoIP service or an IP phone system for it to work. An older, lower-priced model can do the job if your provider supports it.
Will a clearance phone work with my VoIP provider?
Only if it supports SIP and your provider accepts the model. Phones made for Avaya, Mitel, ShoreTel or Cisco call managers may need different firmware, or may not work on a SIP service at all.
Why are these phones on clearance?
Items here are usually older or end-of-line models. They are useful for adding phones to an existing system or keeping spares.
