Wired Phone Headsets: Corded QD and USB Models

A wired headset, also called a corded headset, is a telephone headset that connects to your desk phone or computer with a cable. This range covers new and refurbished wired phone headsets from Plantronics, Poly, Jabra, Sennheiser, EPOS, Vega and Yealink, in mono and duo styles, for fixed desks, receptions and call centres.

Desk phone models, such as the Plantronics HW251 and HW261 SupraPlus, plug into the phone’s headset port through a QD bottom cable. Computer models plug into USB and sit in our USB headsets range. If you need to move away from your desk, see wireless headsets, or go back to all telephone headsets.

How to choose a wired headset

QD cable or USB

Wired headsets for desk phones have a QD (quick disconnect) connector on the cord, which joins a bottom cable to the phone's RJ9 headset port. Wired headsets for computers plug into USB-A or USB-C. Some, such as the Plantronics Blackwire C3225, also have a 3.5mm plug.

Match the bottom cable

QD connectors differ between headset makes, so a Plantronics headset needs a Plantronics bottom cable and a Jabra headset needs a Jabra one. The phone end of the cable must suit your phone, such as Avaya, Cisco or Yealink. Use our headset compatibility check.

Mono or duo

A mono wired headset covers one ear and leaves the other free for the room. A duo (binaural) headset covers both ears and helps you focus in a noisy office. Many models come in both styles, such as the Plantronics HW251 (mono) and HW261 (duo).

Noise-cancelling microphone

A noise-cancelling microphone cuts the background noise your caller hears, which matters in call centres and open-plan offices. In Plantronics SupraPlus model names, an N marks the noise-cancelling version, such as the HW261N.

Questions

What is a corded headset?

A corded headset is a wired headset: it connects to your phone or computer with a cable instead of a radio link. Desk phone models connect through a QD bottom cable to the headset port, and computer models plug into USB. Corded headsets need no charging and have no base station.

Which wired phone headset fits my desk phone?

A wired phone headset fits your desk phone when you pair it with the right bottom cable. The headset end must match the headset make and the phone end must match your phone make. Some older phones without a headset port need an amplifier. Our headset buyers guide explains the options.

Do you sell refurbished headsets for business?

Yes. This range includes new and refurbished wired headsets from business brands such as Plantronics, Jabra and Sennheiser. Choosing the same model as your existing headsets keeps cables and spares the same across the office. If you are equipping a whole team, ask for a quote.

What is the Plantronics HW261N?

The Plantronics HW261N is a duo (binaural) SupraPlus wired headset with a noise-cancelling microphone. It connects to a desk phone through a Plantronics QD bottom cable or an amplifier. The HW251 is the mono SupraPlus model.
