Microsoft Teams phones are desk phones, USB handsets and conference devices for making and taking calls in Microsoft Teams. How to choose a Teams desk phone
- Certified or gateway: a Teams-certified phone gives you the full Teams screen, with meetings, calendar and presence. A SIP phone through a gateway mainly handles calls.
- Check support: Microsoft updates its lists of certified and gateway-compatible devices. Check that the model is still supported before you buy.
- Desk or USB: a Teams desk phone works without a PC. A USB handset or speakerphone needs a computer running Teams.
- Meeting rooms: for group calls, a conference phone or speakerphone picks up voices around a table.

What are Teams phones?
Teams phones are devices that work with Microsoft Teams calling. Certified models run Teams directly on the phone, so you can make calls, join meetings and check voicemail from the screen.
Can I use a standard SIP phone with Teams?
Sometimes. Microsoft supports certain SIP phones, including some Poly and Yealink models, through its SIP gateway, with basic calling features. Your IT team or Teams provider needs to set this up.
Do Teams handsets need a computer?
USB handsets plug into a computer running Teams and use it for calls. Teams desk phones connect to your network and work on their own.
Are Skype for Business phones the same as Teams phones?
No. Some phones made for Skype for Business, such as many Polycom VVX models, do not run the Teams app. Some can still connect to Teams through the SIP gateway. Check the listing before you order.
