Avaya D160 DECT IP Phone
The Avaya D160 is an expansion handset for the D100. Up to eight handsets can connect to a single D100 base station. Up to 16 hours of talk time and up to seven days of standby time; mean this phone can easily handle all day use. Most importantly an included charging station lets you power the phone when the battery does start to drain.
Features on the D160’s interface include four soft keys and eight programmable keys. Use the speakerphone for hands free telephony, or connect a headset to the 2.5 mm jack. In addition the handset includes a free mode headset jack; for site employees who are for instance highly mobile. In conclusion this is lightweight pocket sized cost effective enterprise wireless phone.

D160 Handset Installation
Before you begin – Ensure that your device is not connected to a base station. The handset display should read Not Registered or Searching. If at any time the registration process fails, the handset display reads Registration Failed and the device returns to an Unregistered or Searching state.
- While the handset is in an Unregistered or Searching state, press the Regist soft
key. The handset display flashes a message that reads Press Reg. Key On Base.
• If the handset is in a Searching state, the handset is attempting to find a new base
station. Press the Regist soft key followed by the OK soft key to continue with
the registration procedure. - Press and hold the Registration key on the front of the base station for
approximately three seconds until the LED blinks. Alternatively, you can use System Status Application to enable Registration mode
on the handset. The base station automatically exits registration mode when no handset or repeater
registrations have been performed for over two minutes. - After the handset finds the base station, you must enter the four-digit DECT PIN
code and press OK. If the base station uses the default DECT PIN code, you can
press the Deflt soft key. The Cancel or On-Hook soft keys cancel the registration process.
Note: You have 30 seconds to enter the four-digit DECT PIN code before the handset
returns to Unregistered mode. After registration is complete, the handset enters a logged-out state, ready for a user to log in.
D160 Cordless Range
In ideal open field conditions, the range between a phone and a standard base station can be up to 700 feet (200 meters). However, in indoor conditions with obstacles absorbing signal strength and reflected signals giving increased error rates, the range is more realistically between 100 to 350 feet (30 to 100 meters).
In practice, no rules or guarantees can be given for base station coverage. Too many factors that are unique to each site can affect coverage.
The critical factor for installation is the location of the base station, which emits the wireless signal range up to 350 feet (100 metres) indoors. You can extend this range using repeaters.
Repeaters effectively extend the range of the base station by 100 to 350 feet (30 to 100 metres)
Avaya D160 Button Programming
Use the following procedure to program the function keys that activate the available features. Note that if you do not press any button for 60 seconds, the feature timeout will activate and you will be forced
out of Feature mode.
Button Programming Procedure:
- Firstly in the Idle state, press the Featur (Feature) soft key. The handset enters Feature mode.
- Secondly press the More.. soft key to cycle through the menu options and select the BtnPg
soft key. The handset display prompts you with Button Programming? - Thirdly select Yes to continue with button programming. Select No or Quit to return to the
previous or main menu. If you selected Yes, Button Programming displays on the handset for one second, followed by Select a button>. - Press the function key that you want to assign a feature to. Selecting an invalid key
results in the display message Invalid Input. If you select a function key that
contains previous programming, you will be presented with the Erase/Edit option.
• If you choose Erase, you will be prompted to Erase button?
Select Yes to clear the programming for the selected function key. Note that
this will return you to the main menu in an Idle state.
• If you choose Edit, a dialog prompts you to enter the required information.
Enter the information and proceed to step 5. - In the Select feature menu, use the More.. soft key, if necessary, to navigate to the
feature you wish to program and select it using the corresponding soft key. - Press Yes or No as desired and follow the instructions on the display.
After the base station notifies IP Office of the button programming and IP Office
responds, the handset display reads Button programmed.

Good battery life, however the signal can drop a bit now and again, not sure of its maximum range. Overall performs as it should most of the time.
